Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Neonatal Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant to join our team at Connecticut Children's. As a key member of our NICU team, you will provide exceptional care to newborns and their families, working collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of newborns, including histories and examinations, to identify level of illness severity and develop appropriate care plans.
  • Present assessments to supervising physicians and work towards prescribing necessary care.
  • Perform procedures under guidance, knowing when and how to seek assistance.
  • Apply medical knowledge to common diagnoses, expanding clinical knowledge through independent learning and critical reading of medical literature.
  • Provide diagnostic evaluation, recommending broad evaluation based on unfocused differential diagnosis.
  • Adapt patient information templates to filter and prioritize pertinent positives and negatives based on broad diagnostic categories or possible diagnoses.
  • Organize and prioritize patient care, completing assigned responsibilities focused on individual management and participating in the creation of patient management plans.
  • Attend deliveries with preceptors until independence in neonatal resuscitation is established.
  • Perform procedures as defined by clinical department, increasingly exposed to core procedures and guided in their performance.
Requirements
  • Graduate degree in nursing or physician assistant program accredited by a national certifying body.
  • Current licensure as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in Connecticut or New York, or certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, Inc.
  • Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Ability to recognize patterns, trends, and disease traits, and apply medical knowledge to basic clinical evaluations and patient care.
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills, respectful and compassionate in interactions with staff, patients, and families.
  • Demonstrates accountability for assigned work and openness to feedback, incorporating feedback and learnings into work effort.
