Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our team at Connecticut Children's. As a key member of our Level III NICU team, you will provide exceptional patient care, utilizing strong clinical knowledge and communication skills to deliver top-notch care.
Job Description:
As a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, you will be responsible for completing thorough evaluations of term and premature newborns, including histories and examinations, to identify level of illness severity and develop thoughtful care plans. You will also perform procedures under guidance and know when to seek assistance.
Responsibilities:
- Apply basic medical knowledge to common diagnoses with guidance
- Expand clinical knowledge by seeking knowledge independently and reading medical literature critically
- Incorporate issues of child health advocacy, preventive health care, and cost of tests and therapies
- Provide basic evaluation for common diagnoses
- Recommend broad evaluation based on an unfocused differential diagnosis
- Report results of diagnostic studies, identifying clinically significant results
- Gather patient information following a template
- Adapt the template to filter and prioritize pertinent positives and negatives
- Present clinical facts to preceptor, supervising physician, and care team
- Generate an unfocused differential diagnosis based on clinical facts
- Complete assigned patient care responsibilities focused on individual patients
- Participate in the creation of patient management plans
- Attend deliveries with preceptor until independence in neonatal resuscitation is established
- Increasingly exposed to core procedures and guided in their performance
- Establish rapport with patients and families
- Develop therapeutic relationships in straightforward encounters
- Clearly and appropriately request consultation and present relevant patient information
- Accurately and timely record information in the patient record
- Develop and articulate clinical questions
- Access available evidence with guidance
- Participate in feedback sessions and develop professional goals
- Perform responsibilities in a thorough and timely manner
- Proactively seek guidance in new, complex, and/or stressful situations
- Participate in creating, promoting, and sustaining a healthy and productive team and work environment
- Coordinate care of patients in routine clinical situations
- Identify the need for and engage inter-professional team based on patient and family needs
- Incorporate awareness of population and community health needs and disparities
Qualifications:
- Minimum Education and Experience:
- Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner:
- Graduate degree in nursing accredited by a national certifying body
- Physician Assistant:
- Graduation from a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
- Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner:
- License and/or Certification:
- Current Neonatal Nurse Practitioner licensure in the State of Connecticut or New York
- Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, Inc. (NCCPA)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification required within 3 months of hire
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Medical knowledge sufficient to recognize patterns, trends, and disease traits
- Exemplary written and verbal communication
- Respectful and compassionate in interactions with staff, patients, and families
- Demonstrates accountability for assigned work and the extent of one's involvement in patient care
