Overview:
This role is essential in delivering diagnostic services within the Nuclear Medicine field. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for administering radiopharmaceuticals, operating advanced imaging equipment, and interpreting the resulting data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Radiopharmaceutical Administration: Ensure accurate patient identification, confirm essential details, and establish venous access for radiopharmaceutical delivery. Maintain meticulous records of administration, including dosage and method.
- Patient Interaction: Clearly explain procedures to patients, secure informed consent, and manage necessary documentation for patient records and billing.
- Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough evaluations, ensuring that all patients, particularly females of childbearing age, are assessed for pregnancy status and arrange testing as needed.
- Advanced Imaging Techniques: Perform specialized tasks related to Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging and take on leadership responsibilities when required.
- Radiopharmaceutical Management: Oversee the receipt, documentation, and disposal of radiopharmaceuticals, adhering to safety guidelines established by regulatory bodies.
- Image Analysis: Set up imaging acquisitions per established protocols, ensuring patient comfort and safety, and evaluate images for accuracy before submission to physicians.
- Documentation and Compliance: Utilize Radiology Information Systems (RIS), Clinical Information Systems (CIS), and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) to maintain accurate records and manage patient transportation logistics.
Qualifications:
- Education: Completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
- Licensure/Certification: Must be registered as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB), or be registry eligible with a commitment to obtain registration within one year of hire. Ongoing education and maintenance of registry status are required.
- Basic Life Support Certification: Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
Experience:
No prior experience is necessary for this position.
