Nuclear Medicine Specialist

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team at UNC Health. As a Nuclear Medicine Specialist, you will be responsible for performing and teaching diagnostic procedures in the field of Nuclear Medicine. This includes administering radiopharmaceuticals, operating highly technical instruments, and analyzing acquired data. You will work under the direct supervision of the Nuclear Medicine Supervisor and take direction from the Nuclear Medicine physicians.
Key Responsibilities:
Administer radiopharmaceuticals and record route of administration, dose, and technologist's initials.
Describe exams to patients, obtain informed consent, and complete necessary paperwork for study input of patient information into radiology management system for record keeping and charge generation.
Evaluate requisitions, charts, and lab results, perform patient assessments, and identify patients.
Perform advanced duties such as Positron Emission Technology (PET) imaging and/or lead technologist role.
Handle radiopharmaceuticals, including receipt, documentation, and disposal, following guidelines set up by Radiation Safety Office and NRC.
Select, dose, and quality control review radiopharmaceuticals, ensuring each dose is correct for the ordered procedure, correct activity, acceptable quality control, and properly recorded in dose records.
Set up acquisition and perform according to protocol, maintain patient comfort, care, and safety, analyze images, and evaluate for correctness.
Process films and submit to physicians for approval, and use RIS, CIS, SMS, and PACS to generate proper documentation.
Complete all RIS orders with accurate charges added, and use transport tracking system to arrange transportation of inpatients to and from NM department.
Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
Registered as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or registry eligible and become registered within one (1) year from date of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
