Position Summary:
As a Credit Balance Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to meticulously assess account credit balances and determine the necessary actions for resolution. This role also involves reviewing payment postings, adjustments, and charges to ensure accurate refunds are issued.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Thoroughly evaluate outstanding insurance and patient credit balances to identify the appropriate party for refunds.
  • Execute accurate posting of payments, adjustments, and refunds as required.
  • Analyze transactions (payments and adjustments) from diverse sources daily, including Electronic Remittances, paper checks, EOBs, patients, collection agencies, capitation plans, Care Credit, and Patient Portal.
  • Strictly adhere to the department's payment reconciliation protocols.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively to enhance turnaround times.
  • Achieve or surpass productivity benchmarks in daily assignments and ensure precise output.
  • Maintain an error rate that aligns with departmental standards.
  • Update demographic information as needed to generate accurate patient statements.
  • Respond promptly to external and internal phone inquiries.
  • Manage emails in a timely and professional manner.
  • Carry out all other assigned responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing.
  • Experience in ophthalmology is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of CMS guidelines, insurance contracts, and coding policies.
  • Proficient in computer operations.
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Excellent mathematical skills.
  • Capability to foster effective working relationships with team members, clinic personnel, payers, and patients.
  • Professional customer service abilities.
  • Self-motivated with a commitment to discipline.
