Job Summary

UofL Health is seeking a highly skilled Neurodiagnostic Technologist to join our team in Epilepsy Video Monitoring. As a key member of our neurodiagnostic services team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality electroencephalogram (EEG) studies to patients throughout the hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and prioritize daily workload, communicating with peers to divide and prioritize tasks.
  • Evaluate patient testing needs based on patient history and physician orders, maintaining awareness of individual patient needs and contacting physicians or patient floors for clarification as necessary.
  • Measure each patient's head using the International 10/20 system of electrode placement, scrub each electrode site using an appropriate cleansing medium, apply electrodes with the appropriate medium, check impedance to ensure it is less than 5 K Ohms, and record impedance on the recording.
  • Aware of specific age-related EEG patterns associated with each age group: adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
  • Aware of and utilize special filters and paper speed settings for optimal enhancement of abnormalities.
  • Recognize artifacts, troubleshoot, and correct them in a timely fashion to produce a quality recording, ensuring the integrity of electrodes and recording systems.
  • Monitor electrical brain activity to ensure the integrity of cable telemetry to the mainframe computer system, troubleshoot, and correct cabling problems.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the performance of Evoked Potentials, SSEP, median and tibial, VEP, and BAEP, as well as EMU and continuous EEG monitoring.
  • Follow appropriate sterilization and universal blood and body precautions.
  • Complete appropriate documentation of studies per departmental policy and procedures, charge patients appropriately and in a timely manner, perform patient assessments, and record them accordingly.
  • Monitor EEG and video data continuously as assigned and follow procedures for notification of nursing staff and physicians when abnormalities are detected.
  • Work successfully as an integral part of the multidisciplinary healthcare team caring for each patient.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Display a positive professional image representing the department and the hospital.
  • Comprehend new testing procedures and ideas easily and incorporate them into the job description.
  • Assist in the performance improvement activities of the department and take an active role in determining issues and seeking ways to bring about improvement.
  • Assist departmental physicians and medical students in the performance of patient testing as necessary.
  • Attend and participate in departmental staff meetings, offering helpful suggestions and input for the betterment of the department.
  • Follow proper channels for communication of concerns and ideas.
  • Follow and support all hospital and departmental goals.
Requirements
  • Maintain ongoing certification, including required continuing education units (CEUs).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Preferred qualifications include an associate degree in science or a health-related field, ABRET certification, or registration as an EEG technologist.
  • Experience in performing EEGs, Evoked Potentials, EMU, and/or Intraoperative Monitoring, or 6 months of experience as a Monitor Tech, is preferred.
