The Office of the International Transportation and Trade, the principal organization for the development, direction, and coordination of international transportation and trade policies, is in search of a skilled trade and investment expert to enhance our initiatives on trade negotiations, foreign direct investment assessments, and international transportation challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
International Transportation Analyst - Trade/CIFIUS:
- Acts as a specialist in transportation, trade, and foreign direct investment, demonstrating a thorough understanding of relevant bilateral and multilateral agreements and their implementation. Proposes initiatives to foster policies and support through economic evaluations of domestic and international transportation and trade, foreign direct investment, and business operations within the U.S. transportation sector.
- Prepares for trade discussions with foreign delegations aimed at establishing or modifying bilateral and multilateral trade agreements and participates as a U.S. delegation member in these discussions. Conducts comprehensive economic evaluations and empirical research to stay informed on a wide array of issues impacting international transportation, trade, and foreign direct investment in U.S. transportation.
- Independently gathers, compiles, and assesses input from the U.S. transportation industry for negotiations, formulating recommendations for the Department of Transportation's stance in the U.S. negotiating position. Reviews and interprets communications regarding transportation matters between the Department of State and U.S. Embassies, identifying developments that require immediate high-level attention and advising on appropriate actions.
- Creates briefing materials for senior officials, including the Assistant Secretary, Under Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and Secretary of Transportation, for their participation in meetings, conferences, and Congressional engagements.
The Office of the Secretary (OST) seeks a proactive and independent professional with a background in international trade and foreign direct investment analysis, along with expertise in developing trade policy or negotiating international bilateral transportation and trade agreements with foreign governments.
