The Surgical Specialties unit (6 North-South) is a dynamic inpatient environment.
Our focus is on the post-operative management of various specialties including general surgery, urology, gynecology, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, ENT, orthopedics, pelvic medicine, and trauma recovery.
Given the intricate nature of these cases, our team is adept at delivering expert nursing care for chest tubes, multiple drains, VAC therapy, colostomies, ileostomies, and advanced wound management.
Through our collaborative approach with surgeons and a multidisciplinary team, we ensure exceptional, personalized, and holistic care for each patient.
Work Schedule:Flexible scheduling options are available. Shifts are 12 hours long, commencing at either 6 AM or 6 PM, with every other weekend required.

The Registered Nurse (RN) 1 is tasked with assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for a designated group of patients with varying complexities in a secure and therapeutic setting. The RN utilizes knowledge of growth and development principles throughout the lifespan, evaluates data reflective of the patient's condition, and interprets information necessary to identify each patient's specific needs.
The RN fosters caring relationships with patients, families, and significant others, collaborates effectively with other healthcare professionals, and exercises sound judgment while executing nursing and medical interventions. The RN adheres to specialty standards and organizational policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols. There may be opportunities to supervise Licensed Nursing Assistants and unlicensed personnel.
Qualifications:Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required, with a BSN preferred.
Certifications:
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification, or an equivalent course credentialed by the American Heart Association. Please refer to the Management of Mandatory Required Certification, Competencies, and Education/Training for department-specific certifications.
Experience and Skills:
Evidence of effective and positive interactions with patients, care providers, and the multidisciplinary team is essential. Nursing actions should be based on organized thinking principles to make informed clinical judgments and decisions.
- Collects data through patient history and physical assessments, interpreting information to plan and implement appropriate interventions.
- Develops, assesses, and modifies patient care plans and nursing actions based on evolving patient needs.
- Documents care provided and monitors patient progress towards desired outcomes.
- Oversees and directs others in performing delegated nursing tasks.
- Educates patients and/or significant others about care plans, preparing them for post-discharge management.
- Manages time and resources effectively to deliver quality patient care.
- Provides direct patient care and leads the healthcare team.
