Job Summary & Responsibilities

We are seeking a full-time Civil Survey Crew Chief in Brookings, SD. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing survey crews, scheduling surveys and construction staking, and maintaining survey inventory.

  • Conduct topographic, boundary, and construction staking for various projects
  • Use GPS, total station, data collector, level, and other equipment to complete necessary surveys
  • Prepare survey data accurately and efficiently for construction staking projects
  • Instruct rod-person or assistant on survey crew
  • Process preliminary survey data for construction plan preparation
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, Professional Engineers, and Land Surveyors
  • Other duties as assigned under the direction of a licensed Professional Engineer or Land Surveyor

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess an Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field, with a minimum of 5+ years of experience in construction staking and topographic survey work. Experience directing survey crews and/or technicians is preferred but not required.

  • Computer experience using Microsoft Office products, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Trimble
  • Self-motivated team member with a positive attitude and ability to multi-task and establish priorities
  • Ability to understand and interpret engineering plans and specifications
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various job sites
  • Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
