Job Overview

Main Responsibilities

As a Marine Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the upkeep and functionality of Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USV) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) along with their associated payload systems, adhering to manufacturer specifications and the company's Integrated Management System (IMS).

Your key duties will include:
  • Ensuring the integration and operational efficiency of USV and AUV survey payloads.
  • Overseeing the functionality of Launch and Recovery Systems (LARS).
  • Conducting repairs, testing, and inspections of equipment.
  • Integrating new technologies and defining operational concepts.
  • Training operational teams on integrated technologies.
  • Collaborating with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to troubleshoot issues and enhance performance.
  • Documenting fault reports and rectification efforts.
  • Performing pre-mobilization, mobilization, and pre-deployment checks in accordance with manufacturer and departmental guidelines.
  • Participating in the launch and recovery of equipment from various platforms.
  • Maintaining comprehensive logs during field operations, including maintenance logs, issue trackers, and material requests.
  • Conducting Risk Assessments (RA) and liaising with local authorities at project sites.
  • Contributing to the ongoing enhancement of the Development IMS.

Required Skills

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A foundational understanding of marine mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in marine electronics and power generation.
  • Knowledge of USV/AUV technology and remote operational capabilities.
  • Familiarity with IT infrastructure and networking.
  • Insight into standard navigational equipment (GNSS/IMU/MRU/Radar/Lidar).
  • Understanding of communication systems (WIFI, 4G, Satellite Communications).
  • Acquaintance with typical USV/AUV payload equipment (SBP/MBES/CTDS).
  • A strong grasp of survey acquisition online systems.
  • A genuine interest in maritime autonomy and emerging technologies.
  • The willingness to travel internationally as project needs dictate.
  • The ability to work effectively within small teams.
  • Capability to calibrate and operate positioning systems.

Experience and Qualifications

Candidates should have:
  • Relevant experience as a Survey Technician/Engineer or direct experience with USV or AUV systems.
  • Experience in a USV or AUV field or yard environment is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of Offshore Survey operations.
  • A Higher National Certificate (HNC) or equivalent in engineering or a related marine technology discipline, or equivalent field experience.
  • The ability to obtain all necessary industry certifications for offshore work.
  • A valid passport and/or visas for international travel.
  • A full driver's license.
