About the Role

As a Mental Health Technician at DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing treatment to patients with mental illness. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment and make a positive impact on people's lives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one interaction with patients, assisting them with daily activities such as eating, dressing, and bathing.
  • Participate in educational sessions and facilitate task-oriented sessions, including community meetings.
  • Assist with patient intake, admission, and discharge processes, including data collection and unit orientation.
  • Perform patient, body, and property searches, and secure patient property.
  • Observe patients at risk for dangerous behavior, perform and document patient and environmental rounds, and participate in patient care conferences and treatment-planning meetings.
  • Obtain vital signs, perform specimen collection, diagnostic testing, and assist with physical examinations as needed.
  • Monitor and document patient observations, 1:1 interactions, intervention/actions taken, and the patient's response to interventions provided.
  • Complete court petitions, accompany patients to court, and testify to substantiate the need for court-ordered treatment.
  • Assist professional staff with restraint and seclusion as needed.
  • Perform routine clerical functions, including answering phones, computer input and retrieval of information, ordering and stocking unit equipment and supplies, generating and distributing reports, updating unit census, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Promote guest relations, treat others with care and respect, and maintain confidentiality and dignity.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in behavioral health or equivalent combination of education and experience in an adult mental health setting AND one year of related clinical experience working with mentally ill patients; OR Associates degree in psychology, social work, or a human service discipline.
  • Succesful completion of annual recipient rights training, physical management in-service, and demonstration, maintains active CPR certification.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $40,000 - $55,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) plan, paid time off, and opportunities for professional growth and development.
