Job Summary

This role supports the clinical laboratory team by assisting with the collection, processing, and preparation of patient samples for testing. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of laboratory procedures and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and prepare patient samples for testing, ensuring accurate identification and integrity.
  • Perform waived and moderate complexity testing under direct supervision, meeting performance standards and knowledge level.
  • Monitor pending lists, track missing specimens, and perform maintenance activities on laboratory equipment as directed.
  • Participate in quality control, troubleshooting, and communication with technical staff to ensure accurate results.
  • Assist with inventory management, participate in department initiatives to reduce costs, and contribute to updates of training documents and procedures.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 18 years or older if performing phlebotomy.
  • Progression through career ladder II-IV subject to completion of career ladder requirements.
  • DHS Fingerprinting Certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Valid state driver's license and eligibility for company auto insurance policy.
  • Phlebotomy/CLA certification as defined by state regulations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous clinical laboratory experience.
  • Successful completion of a laboratory assistant program.
  • Basic knowledge of specimen requirements and handling.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
