Summary: The incumbent serves as a key member of the Prosthetic & Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) within the Prosthetic Service Line under the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration.
This role involves providing essential medical supply procurement and inventory management support to both administrative and clinical services, facilitating the necessary obligations to deliver prosthetic and sensory aids services, including durable medical equipment and supplies directly to Veterans.
Responsibilities:
Duties encompass, but are not limited to:
- Executing purchases under the micro purchase threshold.
- Acquiring various equipment, supplies, and services utilizing the government purchase card for micro purchases.
- Quickly interpreting written prescriptions or oral requests to determine required items or services, and conducting follow-up inquiries to clarify medical needs or device specifications based on Veterans' evaluations.
- Procuring supplies and services to fulfill the organization's purchase, rental, or lease requirements.
- Independently monitoring, receiving, tracking, interpreting, and analyzing Prosthetic Consults and prescriptions from various stakeholders.
Promotion Potential:
The selected candidate may advance to the full performance level without further competition upon meeting all regulatory, qualification, and performance criteria.

Position Description:

Requirements:
Candidates must be U.S. Citizens. Selective Service Registration is mandatory for males born after 12/31/1959. A probationary period may be required, and applicants will undergo a background/security investigation. Selected individuals must complete an online onboarding process. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is also mandatory for all Veterans Health Administration HCP.
Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Time-In-Grade requirements apply to current Federal employees and former Federal employees applying for reinstatement.
Specialized Experience for GS-5: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4, including administrative duties in a healthcare setting, reviewing medical records, and assisting in routine and complex specialized purchases.
This position is developmental, leading to higher graded work at GS-6. The incumbent will receive closer supervision when performing complex purchasing tasks.
Education:
Applicants may substitute education for experience. To qualify based on education, candidates must have completed four years of education beyond high school in any relevant field.
Physical Requirements:
The work is primarily sedentary, but may involve physical activities such as lifting, carrying, and managing inventory. The incumbent may need to retrieve equipment from storage and may be required to wear protective clothing when visiting certain areas.
Normal duties are performed in an office setting, with adequate heat, light, and ventilation, while also involving contact with patients and handling equipment returned from Veterans.
