Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Facility Admissions Coordinator to join our team at the University of Maryland Medical System. As a key member of our Patient Access/Patient Administrative Services team, you will be responsible for ensuring a seamless and efficient patient experience from registration to discharge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and verify patient and insurance demographics, as well as verify insurance benefits and coverage.
  • Provide cost estimates, secure pre-certifications and/or pre-notifications for patient services, and collect co-pay and deposits prior to services.
  • Assist patients with financial assistance and provide education on adequate insurance coverage.
  • Maintain regulatory and functional knowledge of all registration information required, ensuring timely and accurate reporting/billing.
  • Communicate coverage issues to service areas and work with patients and staff to resolve.
  • Ensure accuracy and completion of paperwork prior to filing admissions and distribute admission documents as required.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of health insurance principles and practices is required.
  • Current knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and preauthorization is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt to technical upgrades and changes throughout the hospital system.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in executing work tasks, with a focus on delivering exceptional customer service.
