Job Description

This role is considered the minimum role for all nurses at UM Baltimore Washington Medical Center who have greater than 12 months experience.

This nurse will be competent in the skills/knowledge required and fully participate in unit governance. Independently provides and coordinates care provided to patients within a clinical specialty. Serves as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently practices with solid knowledge and clinical skills
  • Competent in care of unit specific patient population and functions effectively in roles specific to the unit
  • Utilizes and integrates evidence into practice
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care addressing patient/family needs
  • Transitions from task-based care to holistic care
  • Participates in unit based Clinical Practice activities
  • Integrates patient education materials utilizing the Teach Back methodology

Qualifications:

  • An Associate Degree in Nursing is required; Bachelor of Science from a College of Nursing is preferred
  • Current Maryland RN licensure is required prior to beginning orientation
  • At least 1 year of RN experience is required
  • Professional Certification is highly encouraged

Working Conditions:

  • Weekend, shift work, holiday, on-call, and overtime may be required
  • Work requires maximum lifting weight of 35 lbs. when participating in patient care tasks up to 50% of the time to position and/or assist patients on to carts or into wheelchairs or beds, and generally with ambulation
  • Work requires standing, sitting, bending, and/or walking for up to 100% of scheduled work time; maximum lifting weight of 50 lbs. when lifting equipment and supplies

About 4South:

4South is a 24-bed acute Telemetry/Step-Down Kaiser Permanente unit with remote telemetry capabilities. The unit provides 24-hour compassionate nursing care to a diverse patient population. We accept patients admitted with diagnoses such as, but not limited to Stroke, Pneumonia, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Cellulitis, Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), Sepsis, Infectious Diseases, Various Gastrointestinal Disorders, Renal Failure and General Surgical Needs.

Nursing care follows the Relationship Based Care Model. This model emphasizes the importance of the relationships between the nurses, patients, and families. Whenever possible, the patient and family are included in the plan of care, treatment and setting of goals during their hospitalization.

We have a very active Unit Practice Council and we also promote and encourage our team members to apply for advancement on our Professional Advancement Model.

4 South also incorporates virtual nursing into their workflow. Virtual nurses are responsible for completing admissions, discharges, some checklists and patient education.
