Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company dedicated to improving mobility and saving lives. With its roots in the Google Self-Driving Car Project, Waymo has focused on developing the Waymo Driver – the world's most experienced driver.
The Waymo Driver powers Waymo One, a fully autonomous ride-hailing service, and can be applied to various vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has completed over one million rider-only trips, thanks to its experience autonomously driving tens of millions of miles on public roads and tens of billions of simulated miles across 13+ U.S. states.
As a software engineer on the Simulator Core team, you will work on the Waymo simulator engine, which runs both Waymo onboard code and simulator realism plugins, such as simulated agents and sensor simulation. The simulator is used in interactive tools and distributed, planet-scale simulations. It is at the core of our development and safety practices.

- Smooth Integration: Design a seamless experience of how our product fits into the Waymo eval tooling ecosystem.
- Improve Driving Realism: Continuously find novel ways to improve the driving realism of Waymo simulation.
- Scalability and Reliability: Improve and monitor the scalability and reliability of the product.
- Mentorship: Mentor other (senior) engineers in the team.
Your Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience building a popular user-facing (internal or external) product.
- Experience with back-end development, including workflows, database, SQL, and production monitoring.
- Design and coding skills.
- Experience in C++ or Python.
We offer a competitive salary range: $192,000 - $243,000 USD per year. In addition, Waymo employees are eligible to participate in our discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
