We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Operating Room Assistant to join our team at Yale New Haven Health. As an Operating Room Assistant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our surgical suites, providing exceptional patient care, and supporting our nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with nursing care of patients in the Labor and Delivery Recovery Postpartum (LDRP) unit, including preparation, maintenance, and cleanup of supplies and equipment.
- Perform scrub and related duties with a registered nurse, maintaining a sterile field and instrumentation.
- Stock and restock supplies utilized in all areas of the LDRP unit.
- Assist with turnover of labor rooms and cleaning/maintenance of equipment.
- Support nursing care under the direction of the RN for patients in the LDRP unit.
- Demonstrate principles of asepsis and prepare and organize materials recognizing special needs of patients.
- Check and maintain specialty and department equipment and supplies as assigned.
- Safely operate all equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
- Implement case breakdown procedure to minimize downtime between cases.
- Demonstrate basic clinical and technical skills according to established standards of practice.
- Perform desk duties such as answering phones, physician paging, releasing the door, greeting patients, and other clerical functions as needed.
- Adhere to all safety procedures in the handling of hazardous materials and blood-borne pathogens.
- Adhere to LDRP O.R. dress code.
- Meet performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self-development as outlined in performance review.
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.
We require a High School Diploma or Equivalent, and a Graduate of an Approved School of Allied Health or Surgical Technology. Previous Operating Room experience is preferred. BLS is required, and National Certification is also required.
