About the Job

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Swim Instructor to join our team at Bend Park and Recreation District. As a Swim Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching swimming lessons to individuals of all ages and skill levels, from beginners to advanced swimmers.

Our ideal candidate will have a strong passion for teaching and a commitment to providing a safe and supportive learning environment. You will be responsible for planning and delivering swimming lessons, assessing student progress, and maintaining accurate records.

We offer a comprehensive training program for our Swim Instructors, which includes certification in the Red Cross Water Safety Instruction (WSI) program. This program will equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to teach swimming lessons effectively and safely.

Responsibilities
  • Teach swimming lessons to individuals of all ages and skill levels
  • Plan and deliver swimming lessons, including lesson plans and assessments
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance
  • Provide a safe and supportive learning environment for students
  • Participate in regular in-service training and professional development opportunities
Requirements
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Currently attending high school or high school diploma or equivalent
  • College coursework in a swimming/fitness related field preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Red Cross WSI program and swimming techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations
Working Conditions

As a Swim Instructor, you will be working in a pool environment, which requires you to be comfortable in and around water. You will also be working with students of all ages and abilities, which requires patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.

Selection Process

Applicants will be screened based on their relevant knowledge, abilities, skills, experience, and training. An offer of employment is contingent on the verification of credentials and other information required by Bend Park and Recreation District policies, including a background check and a driving history review when driving is required for the position.
