Special Education Classroom Aide

Job Title:
Classroom Instructional Aide
Reports to: Principal and Teacher(s)
Primary Objective:
To provide educational support to students under the direct guidance of a certified educator. Assist in the preparation, execution, and management of classroom activities.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) certificate. Must have completed formal academic assessments, possess an associate's degree, or have two years of post-secondary education. Valid Texas educational aide certification required.
Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics. Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with children. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
Experience: Previous experience working with children is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Support:
- Provide assistance to students under the direction of the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
- Aid the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Assist with the administration and scoring of assessments or assignments.
- Help maintain a clean and organized classroom environment.
- Support inventory management, care, and maintenance of classroom equipment.
- Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing necessary reports.
- Offer orientation and support to substitute teachers.
Student Management:
- Supervise students throughout the school day, including during lunch, on the bus, and on the playground.
- Inform the teacher of any special needs or concerns regarding individual students.
Additional Duties:
- Participate in professional development training to enhance job performance.
- Attend faculty meetings and special events as required.
- Adhere to district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Environmental Factors:
Tools and Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computers and peripherals; standard instructional tools.
Posture: Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping.
Motion: Moderate walking; Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
Work Environment:
Exposure to both indoor and outdoor conditions (sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise.
Mental Demands:
Ability to work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress. Compliance with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is required for aides providing instructional support in Title I, Part A programs.
