Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Special Education Assistant to join our team at Fort Wayne Community Schools. As a Special Education Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting teachers with instructional, clerical, student management, and daily life activities for special education students in special education or general classrooms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instructional Support: Assist teachers with lesson planning, implementation, and assessment to ensure students with special needs receive a high-quality education.
  • Clerical Support: Provide administrative assistance with tasks such as data entry, record-keeping, and communication with parents and staff.
  • Student Management: Supervise and support students with special needs in various settings, including classrooms, hallways, and community settings.
  • Daily Life Activities: Assist students with daily living skills, such as personal care, meal preparation, and transportation.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; previous experience working with students with special needs preferred.
  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and flexibility to meet the changing needs of students.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with child guidance principles and practices, basic instructional methods and techniques, and ability to relate well with students, staff, and parents.
