Position Overview

The City of Chesapeake Public Works Department, Facility Maintenance Division is currently seeking applications for a full-time Structural Maintenance Specialist I role.

Chesapeake Public Works is in search of a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to oversee the upkeep and repair of structural elements within municipal buildings, with a particular focus on carpentry and fundamental structural maintenance tasks. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Conduct various types of standard structural maintenance and repairs, including minor construction tasks. This may involve overseeing contractors engaged in similar activities, ensuring quality control and compliance.Implement minor alterations to structures during renovation initiatives.Repair roofing systems, including shingle and built-up types.Maintain essential city documentation and procure necessary materials.
Required Qualifications
Educational Background: A high school diploma or GED is required, along with any combination of education and experience equivalent to the successful completion of one year of college education.

Certifications and Licenses: A valid driver's license is necessary, and the driving record must meet compliance standards. Additional skills or equipment certifications may be required.

Experience: In addition to meeting the educational requirements, this position necessitates a minimum of six months of relevant, full-time equivalent experience.

Special Considerations: Performing essential functions may involve exposure to confined spaces. Employees may be required to work beyond their regular hours in response to urgent departmental needs or city-wide emergencies. Support for emergency operations may involve tasks outside of standard job responsibilities.
