Position Overview
The Managing Attorney for the Family Law Program (FLP) will oversee and direct the operations of the FLP, which includes a dedicated team comprising one staff attorney, one paralegal, and one legal assistant. This program is committed to supporting individuals affected by intimate partner violence by offering comprehensive legal representation, limited scope assistance, and legal counsel in civil matters. Additionally, the FLP collaborates with community legal advocates to facilitate legal clinics, educational initiatives, and volunteer training.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and guide the FLP team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services while prioritizing the needs and respect of survivors.
- Provide legal advice, limited scope representation, and full representation to clients facing family law issues related to intimate partner abuse.
- Conduct thorough legal research, draft necessary legal documents, and prepare pleadings and memos to ensure effective representation.
- Represent clients in court during hearings, status conferences, and trials.
- Evaluate client cases for program eligibility and facilitate connections with volunteer attorneys when appropriate.
- Supervise, mentor, and support interns within the Safe & Stable Families initiative.
- Collaborate with community legal advocates to organize Know Your Rights clinics and outreach events aimed at educating survivors about their legal options.
- Deliver training sessions on intimate partner abuse and related topics as needed.
- Engage in local court and county task forces, committees, and bar activities to foster relationships with other service providers and enhance the program's outreach.
- Participate in bar events, professional development trainings, and speaking opportunities.
Qualifications
Must hold a valid membership with the Georgia Bar and possess a clean disciplinary record, along with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in representing survivors of intimate partner abuse in civil legal matters. Courtroom experience is essential. Notary certification is preferred or must be obtained.
