Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Seafood Order Writer to join our team at Whole Foods Market. As a key member of our seafood department, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely ordering of seafood products, maintaining inventory levels, and providing exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities
  • Replenish seafood products through proper buying procedures, ensuring timely and accurate orders to maintain inventory turns.
  • Monitor and act upon open PO reports for purchases and credits, maintaining accurate records and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Control spoilage and shrink, achieving turn goals and participating in inventory management to optimize product availability.
  • Complete spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets as required, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
  • Oversee customer special order procedures, ensuring timely and accurate fulfillment of customer requests.
  • Analyze and control product transfers, waste, and spoilage, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions to minimize losses.
  • Support leadership in conducting inventories, ensuring accurate and efficient counting and reconciliation of seafood products.
  • Maintain financial profitability by meeting and exceeding purchasing and sales targets, contributing to the overall success of the seafood department.
  • Separate, scan, and dispose of spoilage and shrink, maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Arrive to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed, and ready to work, adhering to company standards and expectations.
  • Provide excellent customer service, addressing customer needs in a timely and effective manner, and modeling suggestive selling techniques to drive sales and customer satisfaction.
  • Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising seafood products.
  • Follow and comply with established procedures, including weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment, adhering to company standards and expectations.
  • Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned, ensuring accuracy of signs and pricing, and maintaining a high level of customer service.
  • Immediately report safety hazards and violations, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.
Requirements
  • Comprehensive knowledge of seafood products, including species, sourcing, and handling procedures.
  • Working knowledge and application of all seafood merchandising expectations, including display and presentation standards.
  • Ability to educate team members on product knowledge and convey enthusiasm for seafood products.
  • Strong basic math skills, with ability to accurately calculate inventory levels, pricing, and sales data.
  • Knowledge and ability to use computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ordering systems, to manage inventory, track sales, and analyze data.
  • Strong to excellent communication skills, with ability to work effectively with team members, customers, and vendors.
  • Ability to deliver information in a clear and respectful manner, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and team members.
  • Ability to follow directions and procedures, with effective time management and organization skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, with ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the store as needed.
  • In an 8-hour workday, standing and walking for 6-8 hours, with ability to sit and rest as needed.
  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling, with ability to use tools and equipment as needed.
  • Work requires bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching, with ability to move quickly and efficiently throughout the store.
  • Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals, with ability to work in a wet and cold environment.
  • Exposure to temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit, with ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed, with ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
