Job Summary

The Silicate Unit Manager is a key leadership role responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally conscious management of the Silicate Department. This individual will oversee the daily operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the Silicate Department's operations, including furnace, dissolvers, filter, batching equipment, effluent, and railroad tracks.
  • Direct operators to achieve optimal product quality and quantity while utilizing personnel and facilities effectively.
  • Develop and administer the yearly Silicate plant budget.
  • Monitor and control unit performance, reporting deviations from plans and budget, and taking corrective action.
  • Encourage and implement participative management strategies to ensure commitment to the business from all plant personnel.
  • Participate in and develop yearly goals with employees and management.
  • Ensure work areas are maintained in a clean and safe condition.
  • Comply with corporate/plant policies and procedures.
  • Manage operations to ensure good environmental practices and stewardship, preserving PQ's good neighbor efforts.
  • Actively support the plant safety committee.
  • Demonstrate health, safety, and environmental leadership and commitment to Responsible Care.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate technical discipline (Chemical Engineering preferable) with an advanced degree a plus.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the chemical industry in a manufacturing environment.
  • Three (2-3) years of supervisory or management experience of increasing responsibility.
  • Experience in supervising in a Union plant.
  • CQI (Continuous Quality Improvement) techniques and methods, such as SPC and Six Sigma.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety principles.
  • Working knowledge of management systems, such as ISO 9001:2015 and RC 14001.
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance.
  • Computer skills, such as Microsoft Office, Aspen, and SAP.
