Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Loan Underwriter to join our Lending team at The J.G. Wentworth Company. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing loan applications, verifying essential information, and ensuring a high-quality experience for our applicants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Loan Application Review: Review and verify loan applications, including employment, income, identity, payment history, bank account history, and repayment ability.
  • Quality Control: Maintain high standards of quality while processing a large volume of loan applications.
  • Communication: Conduct outbound communication to request additional documentation from loan applicants, as necessary.
  • Customer Service: Process inbound calls, emails, and other forms of communication from applicants.
  • Fraud Detection: Detect suspicious or potential fraud risk on loan applications.
  • Process Improvement: Propose new ideas and recommendations to improve departmental processes.
Requirements
  • Experience: 2-5 years of experience in customer service, loan underwriting, consumer lending, personal banking, mortgage underwriting, or a similar field.
  • Skills: Familiarity with processing loans, financial statements, and income documents; ability to articulate financial questions and document requests via phone and email; ability to follow detailed procedures to verify applicant information and process applications.
  • Personal Qualities: Strong communication, typing, and writing skills; goal-oriented and experienced with high-performance teams; comfortable with a significant amount of time spent engaging with customers; extremely comfortable with computers and general aptitude for quickly learning new systems.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently; detail-oriented and a passion for accuracy; appreciate a team mentality and have a desire to contribute to our mission as a company.
