Job Summary

As a Histotechnician at Anne Arundel Dermatology, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest quality and accuracy in tissue processing and slide preparation. Reporting to the Practice Manager, you will be responsible for following laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, and reporting patient test results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform all technical procedures related to tissue preparation and slide production, maintaining the highest standard of quality.
  • Accurately accession cases into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Dissect skin and excisional specimens according to institute protocols.
  • Embed tissue, cut blocks, and perform H&E staining.
  • Operate the Special Stainer and ensure all equipment is in proper working order.
  • Validate staining kits and controls used in the Special Stains area.
  • Perform immunohistochemical staining and validate antibodies used.
  • Maintain quality control systems for the Special Stains and IHC areas.
  • Help maintain inventory of IHC antibodies and reagents.
Requirements
  • HT(ASCP) registered or eligible, or High School graduate with two years of experience in a histology laboratory.
  • 1-2 years of experience in histotechnology.
  • Two years or more of grossing experience is strongly preferred.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of computers.
  • Ability to read and understand written protocols, lab reference manuals, and memos.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
