Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Care Assistant to join our team at Nationwide Children's Hospital. As a Respiratory Care Assistant, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our Respiratory Therapy department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review patient charts and other relevant data to ensure accurate planning and administration of respiratory care therapies.
  • Assess and document the effectiveness of ordered respiratory care treatments, monitoring patient responses using clinical parameters such as heart rate, respiratory rate, color, work of breathing, and level of consciousness.
  • Administer IPPB, PD&P, aerosol therapy, pulse oximetry, peak flows, oxygen, humidification therapy, and other airway clearance devices, accurately documenting all therapy performed.
  • Set up, calibrate, and troubleshoot ventilators and O2 delivery devices, assisting in the cleaning and processing of equipment.
  • Respond appropriately to all codes and traumas, performing tasks within the scope of practice, such as CPR and C-spine immobilization.
  • Responsible for the order entry and billing of services on the hospital computer system.
  • Assist in arrangements for home care patients, including patient/parent teaching, review of equipment, and cleaning techniques.
  • Accept verbal orders from physicians related to Respiratory Care and/or Patient Care Services policies and procedures, in accordance with the verbal order policy of the Patient Care Services Department.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills required in interactions with patients and parents, and hospital staff.
  • Ability to work under general supervision.
  • Meets one of the following criteria: enrolled and in good standing in a respiratory care educational program.
  • Any patient care activities can only be done by those who are Limited Permit Holders in the state of Ohio.
  • Must possess and maintain current CPR card, and obtain and maintain PALS and/or NRP certification as required by unit.
