Job Summary

Duties and Essential Functions
  • Obtain, verify, and record patient health history
  • Gather pertinent health data through screenings and collect specimens for laboratory analysis
  • Provide basic patient care as ordered, administer medications and treatments as directed, and assist other healthcare professionals in performing exams, diagnostic procedures, and treatments
  • Adhere to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies, document screenings, interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed/prescribed, and test results in medical records
  • Check schedules, organize patient flow, and fulfill clerical responsibilities, including patient registrations, check-in/check-out, scheduling, obtaining lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information
  • Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics, stock exam rooms, and sort supplies
  • Fulfill facilitator responsibilities, which may include medical/surgical asepsis, sterilization, instrument wrapping, and autoclaving, checking vital signs, physical exam preparations, prescription verifications with physician's orders, minor surgery assists, applying dressings, and suture removal, biohazard waste disposal and monitoring, therapeutic modalities, instructing patients with assistive devices, body mechanics, and home care
Education/License/Certification/Other Requirements
  • High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)
  • Medical Assistant Diploma from an accredited vocational institution or community college, Medical Assistant Certification, or (1) year recent documented experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office in a similar role
  • Must maintain AHA BLS Certification
Working Environment

Constantly works near moving mechanical parts, constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection, occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, occasionally exposed to risk of radiation, and the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands

Occasionally required to maintain a stationary position (standing or sitting), frequently required to walk and move about, frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment, frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices, constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds, frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds, occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds, constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing, and specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
