GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, this role involves executing advanced (senior-level) construction, restoration, renovation, and maintenance tasks. The position is accountable for technical and commercial construction, maintenance, and repair operations for the Parks and Wildlife Department Headquarters and associated facilities.
This role requires performing skilled technical repairs and installations across various facilities and equipment, demonstrating advanced proficiency in plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, painting, furniture restoration, locksmithing, and mechanical systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and adjusting computerized heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
- Conducting mandatory monthly, semiannual, and annual safety inspections of buildings.
- Collaborating as part of a team on light construction, maintenance repairs, and equipment installation projects.
- Assisting in planning and coordinating employee relocations and furniture configurations.
- Establishing and executing daily scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks.
- Documenting all work performed in the work order system and analyzing reports.
- Potentially training, leading, assigning, and prioritizing the work of others.
This position operates with minimal supervision, allowing for considerable initiative and independent judgment. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary, and compliance with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures is expected.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from High School or GED.
Experience: A minimum of five years of experience in commercial construction or building/facility maintenance.
Licensure: Candidates must possess or be able to obtain a Texas class "C" driver's license within 30 days of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Completion of trade or technical school certification, or graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate degree or higher in a construction-related field.
Experience: Experience across multiple trades such as welding, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical work.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance, repair, and installation tasks in major construction trades for commercial mechanical systems and large facilities. This includes:
- Understanding of maintenance, custodial, and groundskeeping services.
- Familiarity with major electrical and communication equipment, including the hazards associated with high and low voltage.
- Knowledge of commercial plumbing systems and light commercial electrical systems.
- Awareness of pertinent construction, building, and Life Safety codes.
- Expertise in commercial HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, and associated components.
Proficiency in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is essential, along with effective verbal and written communication skills. The ability to provide quality customer service and maintain effective work relationships is crucial.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This role requires working from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the possibility of working outside of these hours, including weekends and holidays. Participation in a 24x7 on-call support rotation is necessary, as well as the ability to respond to emergencies and perform manual labor, including lifting materials up to 75 lbs.
Work may occur outdoors in varying weather conditions and at heights. Occasional travel may be required, and operation of a State vehicle is necessary.
