Substation Physical Engineer III Job Description

Timmons Group is seeking a highly skilled Substation Physical Engineer III to lead our Electrical Design Group in Charlotte, NC. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for preparing substation project designs, studies, and technical documents to support the design of substation projects nationwide.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop scopes of work, conceptual designs, and execution plans for substation projects
  • Prepare engineering cost and man-hour estimates and schedules
  • Design substation physical infrastructure, including yard layouts, plans, and details, grounding plans, and control building layouts
  • Develop bills of material and arrange substation structure elements and associate equipment and their foundations
  • Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and participate in factory acceptance testing
  • Coordinate design activities with other departments and provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members
  • Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel and provide short-term field support during construction
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited program
  • Minimum 7 years related experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred
  • Proficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE/ANSI Standards
  • Knowledge of computer drafting tools such as AutoCAD preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
