About the Role

Avista is seeking a highly skilled Hydro Power Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will play a critical role in the design and development of our hydroelectric power generation assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Lead the design and development of electrical engineering assignments that impact Avista's hydroelectric power generation assets.
  • Electrical Equipment Specification: Specify, evaluate, and purchase electrical equipment such as AC and DC panelboards, switchgear, motor control centers, batteries, chargers, UPS systems, generators, auxiliaries, transformers, breakers, busbar, cabling, and balance of plant systems.
  • Generation Station Design: Lead, create, modify, and review generation station design, drawings, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, protection and control schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, physical layouts, and construction details.
  • Field Engineering and Commissioning: Provide field engineering and commissioning support during construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Electrical Studies: Perform and review electrical studies, including load, short circuit, low voltage protection, and arc flash.
  • Project Management: Manage engineering projects and issues of increasing complexity, size, and number.
  • Business Development: Develop creative solutions and build business cases to implement those solutions.
  • Technical Support: Respond to technical data requests from utility commissions or other agencies.
  • Mentorship: Mentor other engineers and/or those looking to enter the engineering profession.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • Professional Engineering License: Possess a professional engineering license.
  • Experience: Minimum of eight (8) years of engineering work experience.
  • Skills: Demonstrated skills illustrating the use of productivity, presentation, and analytical tools specific to the area of expertise.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated technical leadership within engineering.
  • Communication: Effective and flexible communication skills.
  • Knowledge: Advanced knowledge, skills, technical proficiency, and abilities as demonstrated by a professional engineering license.
  • Specialty Technical Proficiency: Specialty technical proficiency, project leadership, and ability to be self-directed.
