POSITION OBJECTIVE:
This tenure track role involves providing mentorship, instruction, and leadership to nursing students enrolled in the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AASN) program. Responsibilities include evaluating, scheduling, and advising students, as well as delivering classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction utilizing collaborative teaching methodologies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Facilitate learning through effective teaching methods.
  • Provide instruction in theoretical, laboratory, and clinical settings in Fundamental or Medical-Surgical Nursing, and additional nursing specialties such as:
  • Emergency Nursing, Critical Care, Pediatrics, Mental Health, Women's Health, or Gerontology/Geriatrics.
  • Cover all aspects of nursing care, including personal hygiene, client advocacy, cultural competence, nutrition, pharmacology, and nursing ethics.
  • Guide student activities associated with the instructional program.
  • Engage in departmental initiatives that support the instructional program.
  • Instruct and supervise nursing students in clinical, laboratory, simulation, and community environments.
  • Collaborate with Nursing Program Coordinators, the Chair of Nursing, and the Dean of Health Sciences.
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with students and colleagues.
  • Work effectively with a diverse student population.
  • Contribute to the college's mission and values.
  • Demonstrate commitment to extracurricular responsibilities within the nursing program.
  • Participate in relevant professional organizations.
  • Adapt to changes within the nursing program as needed.
  • Apply educational theories and principles to instructional practices.
  • Tailor instruction to meet the varying knowledge and skill levels of students.
  • Recommend course and program modifications to the Academic Department Chair and Dean as necessary.
  • Develop course syllabi that align with college standards and student needs.
  • Utilize diverse instructional strategies as appropriate.
  • Inform students about available instructional resources.
  • Orient students to course objectives and procedures prior to instruction.
  • Establish and communicate clear grading criteria and standards.
  • Utilize evaluations to refine course content and instructional strategies.
  • Administer assessments to gauge student performance and understanding.
  • Keep students informed of their academic progress through consistent communication.
  • Meet all deadlines in a timely manner.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Advising:
Maintain availability for students through scheduled office hours. Be knowledgeable about college policies and assist students with class scheduling and academic progress monitoring.

Faculty Engagement:
Participate in committees and initiatives as appointed. Utilize professional expertise to contribute to community activities. Attend faculty meetings and support college objectives.

Professional Development:
Engage in ongoing professional development activities. Collaborate with colleagues to establish personal and departmental goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A. All faculty must possess a master's degree in nursing from an accredited institution and have completed at least 18 graduate semester hours in their teaching field.

B. Hold an unencumbered RN license in the State of Tennessee and possess CPR certification for healthcare professionals, along with relevant nursing practice experience.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

A. Minimum one year of teaching experience in a pre-licensure nursing program required.

B. Preferred three years of relevant RN work experience.

C. Recent acute care clinical experience preferred.

D. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.

E. Proficiency in oral and written English is essential for effective communication in an academic setting.

WORK LOCATION:
The primary work location may vary, with potential assignments at multiple campuses as needed to support the nursing program.
