Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our team at WellLife Network. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing direct mental health services to individuals participating in rehabilitation and recovery services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach Skills and Strategies: Teach individuals and groups essential skills and strategies to manage their mental health and achieve their recovery goals.
  • Advocacy and Support: Advocate for individuals and provide support to help them navigate the mental health system and access necessary resources.
  • Community Linkages: Assist individuals in identifying community supports and facilitating linkages to ensure they have access to a comprehensive range of services.
  • Recreational and Social Activities: Assist individuals in planning and coordinating recreational and social activities, and provide escort services as needed.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all interactions with individuals, and report incidents and concerns to supervisors in a timely manner.
  • Training and Professional Development: Participate in regular training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in areas such as wellness self-management and best practice skills.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalency diploma required.
  • Certification: OMH-certified Peer Specialist or OASAS-certified Peer Advocate required.
  • Experience: Two years of active participation in mental health self-help activities, peer support or peer advocacy programs, or recipient-run organizations or similar experiences or programs.
  • Skills: Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills and ability to empathize with, relate to, and effectively work with individuals with mental health needs.
