Job Title: Peer Support Specialist

At Urban Recovery, we are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our team. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals in their recovery journey from substance abuse.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist clients in articulating personal goals for recovery through one-to-one and group sessions.
  • Support clients in identifying and creating goals, and developing recovery plans with the skills, strengths, supports, and resources to aid them in achieving those goals.
  • Teach clients how to identify and combat negative self-talk.
  • Provide a forum for group members and the Peer Support Specialist to share their experiences and overcome fears.
  • Use identified literature, media, etc. to help clients gain hope, learn to identify their strengths, and combat negative self-talk.
  • Teach and role model the value of every individual's recovery experience.
  • Communicate with counseling and nursing staff regarding patient activity.
  • Aware of the chain of command and use available professional personnel for direction.
  • Observe patients for behavior inconsistent with treatment goals.
  • Assure that patients adhere to program activity schedule.
  • Escort patients to destinations outside the facility.
  • Transport patients to floors throughout the facility when needed.
  • Make room checks on all patients.
  • Facilitate Morning Meeting and Step Groups.
  • Conduct an intake interview with newly admitted patients, including unit orientation.
  • Assist in the de-escalation of a behaviorally compromised client.
  • Provide intervention for clients attempting to leave against medical advice (AMA).
  • Assist in identifying reasons to finish treatment and consequences of leaving.
  • Ensure the well-being of clients who are seen but not admitted (SBNA), including preventing lingering by escorting clients off the premises.
  • Ensure the safety of patients when leaving the facility, for example, walking the client to the bus or waiting with the client for taxi pick-up.
  • Participate in daily review calls with leadership, providing valuable analysis and feedback about patient quality-of-care.
  • Conduct fact-finding, assess the overall gravity of patient situations, and meet with the compliance officer to discuss issues.
  • Collaborate with the compliance officer to assist all parties in a resolution of the patient disputes.
  • Prepare concise, factual reports and correspondence to present to the compliance officer.
  • Provide daily reports of activity throughout the day and submit to the Clinical Director.
  • Act as a role model for patients and peers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certificate as a Recovery Coach in NY.
  • One (1) year of related work experience.
Skills:
  • Knowledge of Substance Abuse Treatment.
  • Computer skills.
  • Great interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
