Job Title: Peer Specialist

Join our team at WellLife Network as a Peer Specialist, where you will play a vital role in providing direct mental health services to individuals participating in rehabilitation and recovery services.

Job Summary:

The Peer Specialist will work closely with recipients to facilitate their recovery processes, focusing on developing self-help skills, support systems, coping strategies, and increased hope and self-esteem. This position requires a strong understanding of mental health services and the ability to empathize with and relate to recipients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach skills to individuals and groups, promoting self-help and empowerment.
  • Advocate for recipients and negotiate with service providers to ensure their needs are met.
  • Assist recipients with travel training and facilitate linkages to community supports.
  • Verbally engage and empathize with recipients based on common experiences.
  • Participate in schedules/activities of other staff members in their absence or during periods of staff shortage.
  • Represent the agency at meetings, trainings, and other events.
  • Communicate information with all staff and supervisors verbally and in writing.
  • Document all consumer interaction in accordance with program standards.
  • Participate in the development of treatment goals and bi-weekly individual supervision.
  • Conduct field-based visits and report/coordinate daily office and field schedule.
  • Attend periodic trainings to enhance skill level and learn about wellness self-management and best practice skills.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school diploma or equivalency diploma.
  • OMH-certified Peer Specialist/OASAS-certified Peer Advocate certification.
  • Two years of active participation in mental health self-help activities, peer support or peer advocacy programs, or recipient run organizations or similar experiences or programs.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills and the ability to empathize with, relate to, and effectively work with recipients of mental health services.
