The Federal Work Study Program (FWS) is a federally-supported initiative designed to offer subsidized part-time employment opportunities for eligible students, helping them address their financial needs related to postsecondary education.
CCC adheres to the Department of Education's guidelines for the FWS program, ensuring that students can take advantage of this valuable opportunity.
This program is aimed at helping students gain relevant experience in their chosen fields by placing them in departments that align with their academic pursuits whenever feasible. Students can utilize their earnings to cover educational and living expenses.
FWS positions are available across various sectors, including academic departments, laboratories, libraries, administrative offices, student centers, and select off-campus sites.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the Student Financial Aid Advisor in conducting outreach initiatives, including Resource Fairs, financial literacy workshops, financial aid events, and campus-related activities.
- Assist students with project-related tasks.
- Aid in the completion of financial aid applications and public benefits processes.
Peer Financial Counselors are expected to become knowledgeable about financial aid programs and public benefit options available to meet diverse student needs.
Peer Financial Counselors will also assist community members seeking information on financial aid applications or related services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum GPA of 2.0
- Maintain enrollment of at least 6 credit hours each semester
- Must be enrolled in a degree program
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress
- Adhere to the college's confidentiality policies
- Successfully pass background and drug screenings
- Strong interpersonal skills for engaging with individuals and assisting with online applications
- Excellent ability to create a comfortable environment for discussing personal financial matters
- Ability to prioritize student service experiences
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
- Applicants must be at least 16 years old, possess work permit consent, and be eligible to work in the United States.
- Applicants must be actively enrolled at one of the City Colleges of Chicago.
- Applicants must be registered for a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester.
- Applicants must be pursuing an approved educational credential, degree, or certificate.
- Applicants must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (waived for first-semester new students).
- Applicants must be in good academic standing, with no restrictions from City Colleges of Chicago.
- Current full-time or part-time employees of City Colleges of Chicago are not eligible for this position.
- All positions are considered "employment at-will."
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma required or actively pursuing a GED at City Colleges of Chicago.
- Familiarity with City Colleges of Chicago.
- Exceptional oral communication skills.
- Strong customer service abilities.
- Serve as a positive role model and uphold a favorable public image for City Colleges of Chicago.
- Comply with City Colleges of Chicago's Customer Service Excellence Standards.
