Nursing Attendant

We are seeking a skilled Nursing Attendant to join our Central Nursing Service team on a night shift basis. As a Nursing Attendant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting the nursing team in delivering exceptional patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the implementation of the nursing process by performing direct and indirect patient care to assigned patients under the supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse.
- Maintain an orderly and safe patient care environment and unit.
- Assist with admission/transfer/discharge of patients, including orienting patients to the hospital environment, providing toileting supplies, and assisting patients with removing clothes and completing property checks.
- Prepare bedside units to receive patients and discharge patients, including assisting patients with dressing and packing personal belongings.
- Conduct patient rounds for toileting, positioning, comfort, safety, and personal needs, and answer patient call lights and respond to patient needs promptly.
- Assemble O2 equipment, such as nasal cannulas and suction setups.
- Provide basic hygiene to patients, including bathing, AM/PM care, mouth care, denture care, hair care, nail care, and foot care, as well as shaving and assisting patients with bedpans, urinals, and commodes.
- Prepare patients for meals, including clearing overbed tables and placing them within reach of the patient, positioning patients correctly for eating/tube feedings, assisting patients with preparing utensils and food items, and feeding patients.
- Perform and/or assist patients with simple treatments, including removing and reapplying SCD wraps as directed by the RN and assisting RNs with enema procedures.
- Collect specimens as directed by the RN.
- Inform the RN of any audible clinical alarms, such as IV pumps, feeding pumps, ventilators, bedside monitors, and other equipment.
- Assist with moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients.
- Assist with removing and securing patient personal items prior to procedures as needed.
- Change linen in accordance with policy and as necessary.
- Take and electronically record blood pressure, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, and respiration per care level standard and as directed by the RN, and report abnormalities to the RN.
- Weigh patients and electronically record on admission as ordered and/or as directed by the RN.
- Measure and record oral intake, urinary output, bowel elimination, gastric, and other drainage onto the I&O record form or electronic, and calculate 8-hour totals and empty drainage bags.
- Perform post-mortem care.
- Perform safety observations for patients on continuous observation or in restraints per policy and as directed.
- Report any changes observed in the patient's condition to the RN.
- Respond to and meet patient/family needs and customer concerns as soon as possible with compassion and understanding, established effective caring relationships with staff, patients, family, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Maintain competence through in-service and educational programs.
- Attend staff meetings and review/sign minutes of meetings not attended, maintain a safe and uncluttered environment of care in patient rooms, including removing excessive furniture, supplies, and equipment, assist with supply and equipment management of patient procedure and supply rooms per department standards.
- Maintain cleanliness of utility rooms and pantries as assigned.
- Perform other duties such as errands, relieving other units, bringing stretchers, and assisting other members of the healthcare team as directed.
- Perform other duties as aligned with the mission and values of the organization.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate of Certified Nursing Attendant program or minimum 6 months relevant experience required.
- BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon entry to the position.
- Competencies: Working knowledge of English evident in verbal, reading, and writing abilities; other language an asset; Strong customer service and communication skills.
