Job Summary:

The Nursing Assistant in the Medical Surgical Unit is responsible for providing direct patient care and performing various duties to ensure optimal patient care under the supervision of a professional nurse.


Responsibilities:
Provide direct patient care services, including feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, and moving patients or changing linens.
Perform duties and conduct interpersonal relationships in a manner that projects a positive image of the department and hospital.
Ensure that contacts with other healthcare members are friendly, helpful, and courteous.

Requirements:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Certified by the N. C. Department of Facility Services as a NAI. BCLS Certification.
Good interpersonal, communication, and observation skills are essential. Understanding of patient care needs according to developmental stages for various age groups.

Work Environment:

Exposure to blood-borne pathogens, airborne pathogens, and other infectious diseases requiring the use of protective equipment; exposure to other hazards, such as radiation, toxic waste, chemical hazards based on the departments.

Possible exposure to conditions, such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.

Physical Requirements:
Standing, sitting, walking, and working throughout the shift. Lifting, pulling, turning, and pushing patients daily. Ability to use appropriate Safe-Patient Handling equipment. Visual acuity, auditory, and verbal skills necessary. Stressful work periods and rotating shifts.
