The Nursing Assistant in the Progressive Care Unit is responsible for administering direct patient care and performing other duties deemed necessary to ensure optimal patient care, under the direction and supervision of a professional nurse.

The Nursing Assistant performs duties such as feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, or moving patients or changing linens.

Responsibilities:

Patients and families are served in providing direct patient care services. Performs duties and conducts interpersonal relationships in a manner to project a positive image of the department and hospital. Ensures that contacts with other health care members are friendly, helpful, and courteous.

Qualifications:

High school graduate or equivalent. Completion of North Carolina (NC) Board of Nursing approved Nursing Assistant course.

Professional Experience Requirement:

None required.

Licenses/Registration/Certification:

Certified by the N. C. Department of Facility Services as a NAI. BCLS Certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

Good interpersonal, communication, and observation skills are essential. Understanding of patient care needs according to developmental stages for various age groups.

Work Environment:

Exposure to blood-borne pathogens, airborne pathogens, and other infectious diseases requiring the use of protective equipment; exposure to other hazards, such as radiation, toxic waste, chemical hazards based on the department.

Possible exposure to conditions, such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.

Physical Requirements:

Standing, sitting, walking, and working throughout the shift. Lifting, pulling, turning, and pushing patients daily. Ability to use appropriate Safe-Patient Handling equipment. Visual acuity, auditory, and verbal skills necessary. Stressful work periods and rotating shifts.
