As a Materials Engineer - Advanced Materials Examinations, you will be part of our global Fuel Materials Innovation team, based in the USA and Europe. Your main responsibility will be to plan, structure and successfully realize advanced examinations of materials for fuel assemblies for existing and future nuclear reactors.

Our team's focus areas encompass materials for all parts of the fuel assemblies, from the ceramic uranium pellets to metallic components such as Zr-based fuel cladding, and surface coatings for Accident Tolerant Fuel (ATF).

Your day-to-day activities will include:

  • Planning, structuring, tracking and securing the progress in advanced examinations of materials for fuel assemblies for existing and future nuclear reactors.
  • Working collaboratively with Westinghouse's global team of specialists to assure that the Post-Irradiation Examination (PIE) campaigns provide the fuel performance data required for our models and methods development, as well as licensing of next generation materials solutions.
  • Working collaboratively with our partners at the main laboratories to successfully execute and finalize advanced PIE campaigns.
  • Performing analysis of test data and generating technical reports documenting the analysis.
  • Identifying and defining technical issues and challenges and driving successful resolution.

This role is initially remote and can, if desired, develop into a role at one of our main sites, e.g., the Churchill facility near Pittsburgh, PA, or the Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility (CFFF) near Columbia, SC.

As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:

  • A BSc or MSc in Materials Science, Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field with 2+ years of professional experience or equivalent combination of degree and experience.
  • Experience from planning and execution of advanced PIE programs.
  • Strong communication and cooperation skills.
  • Enjoy working in challenging projects, both independently and in teams.
  • Professional working proficiency in English, both speaking and writing.
