Job Overview: We are in search of a highly qualified and driven Fermentation Plant Engineer/Operator to become a vital part of our energetic team. The successful candidate will possess substantial experience in managing and optimizing large-scale fermentation systems, including fermenters with capacities reaching 10,000L, alongside practical knowledge of disc stack centrifuges, utilities, and overall plant operations. This position demands a strong commitment to work, meticulous attention to detail, and a genuine enthusiasm for advancing sustainable agriculture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and oversee large-scale fermentation systems, specifically fermenters up to 10,000L.
- Manage and enhance the performance of disc stack centrifuges, ensuring effective separation and processing of fermentation outputs.
- Supervise and maintain essential utilities for plant operations, such as steam, water, compressed air, and HVAC systems.
- Diagnose and resolve operational challenges to reduce downtime and improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with research and development as well as production teams to transition processes from laboratory settings to full-scale production.
- Implement and monitor process controls to guarantee consistency, quality, and adherence to safety and environmental standards.
- Conduct regular maintenance and calibration of equipment to ensure peak performance.
- Maintain comprehensive records of plant operations, including batch records, equipment logs, and maintenance documentation.
- Contribute to ongoing improvement initiatives focused on enhancing plant efficiency, product yield, and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and environmental regulations, along with company policies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Microbiology, or a related discipline; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in fermentation plant operations, particularly with fermenters up to 10,000L.
- Demonstrated experience with disc stack centrifuges and associated utilities.
- Strong mechanical skills with the capability to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
- Familiarity with process control systems and data analysis for optimization purposes.
- Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations related to fermentation processes.
- Strong work ethic, with a focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional nights and weekends, as needed.
