Position may be eligible for an annual bonus payment.

Position Summary

The role involves independent examination of claims for both field and home offices, focusing on analyzing claims with significant exposure and/or complexity.
  • The ideal candidate will have expertise in Liability, Coverage, and Litigation.
  • The successful candidate will work remotely and reside within ERIE's service area.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Guides field management on the handling of intricate claims, including coverage, reserving, and resolution strategies.
  • Manages files involving litigation against ERIE, overseeing the litigation process in collaboration with the Claims Legal Department and external counsel.
  • Directs investigations, settlements, and/or coverage denials of claims. Oversees the appeal process and management of excess verdicts.
  • Reviews files and collaborates with field management on recommendations for enhancements as necessary. Conducts periodic visits to field offices for training on claims handling processes, coverage, statutory changes, and reserving.
  • Analyzes statutory changes and ensures compliance in designated jurisdictions.
  • Assists defense counsel in litigation and trial as required.
  • Participates in or leads special projects with other departments.

Qualifications

Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree with five years of experience in adjusting complex claims, required; or
  • Associate's degree with seven years of experience in adjusting complex claims, required; or
  • High school diploma or GED with nine years of experience in adjusting complex claims, required.
Additional Experience
  • Extensive knowledge of the applicable line of business (Worker's Compensation, Liability, Medical Management, or Property) is required.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be necessary.
Designations and/or Licenses
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Pursuit and successful completion of a professional designation, such as AIC, CPCU, SCLA, WCLA, or equivalent, is preferred.
