Position Overview:
A skilled clinician possessing a moderate level of expertise in assessment and therapeutic interventions for respiratory disorders, consistently demonstrating proficiency in practice. Integrates comprehensive system evaluations into patient care as necessary. Maintains adherence to departmental standards in practice and documentation with minimal variation. Collaborates effectively with patients, families, physicians, and the healthcare team to manage care and implement treatment strategies. Actively seeks and provides constructive feedback to enhance clinical practices. Serves as a mentor for learners.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluates respiratory care requirements, utilizing diagnostic assessments and therapeutic strategies with expertise.
  • Records patient care in accordance with professional standards and departmental protocols.
  • Communicates patient responses to respiratory interventions accurately and suggests modifications to care plans as needed.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to quality through understanding of processes, data, and outcomes; participates in performance improvement initiatives; applies standard procedures, protocols, and documentation.
  • Engages in professional growth through formal education, certification, and participation in professional organizations. Mentors new learners and students.
  • Exhibits innovative use of technologies that enhance patient care; actively participates in the implementation of evidence-based practices and integrates new knowledge from respiratory research endorsed by the department.
  • May undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Compensation: $48.21 per hour

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program. An Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy is required; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 12 months of clinical experience in acute/critical care respiratory therapy.
Licensure/Certification: Must hold an active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Must be licensed to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification is required. Active NBRC Specialty Credential (e.g., RRT-ACCS, RRT-NPS) must be obtained within two years of hire for Medical Center Respiratory Therapists; ACLS certification is required for TCH Respiratory Therapists within three months of hire.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires prolonged standing, frequent travel, and bending/stooping. Proficient communication, auditory, and visual skills are essential; attention to detail and legible writing are necessary. The ability to lift, push, or pull is required. Exposure to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious diseases may occur.
