We are seeking a Shop Manager for our Crescent City contract, responsible for managing all activities of the Maintenance Department.

The Shop Manager will oversee the maintenance, servicing, and repairs of all vehicles at the assigned facility, ensuring 100% PM compliance and efficient repair schedules.

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule employees for the department and ensure effective supervision of mechanics and other shop workers.
  • Administer collective bargaining agreement provisions and coordinate with outside vendors.
  • Select, train, motivate, and evaluate assigned personnel.
  • Oversee the development of efficient repair schedules and review repair cost estimates.
  • Approve priority of maintenance and repairs based on availability of materials and parts and scheduled operation requirements.
  • Help ensure that company and client equipment is maintained and operating efficiently.
  • Control and monitor inventory.
  • Enter Work Orders, Parts, and Purchase Orders into the electronic maintenance system.
  • Verify the accuracy of all shop purchases.
  • Ensure all vehicles are fueled, cleaned, and properly working.
  • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures for the department.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Participate in the development and administration of the operational budget.
  • Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods.
  • Ensure that property, grounds, and facilities are clean and well organized.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • A High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
  • A valid driver's license.
  • An excellent motor vehicle record.
  • ASE certifications in heavy trucks and/or transit buses (or the ability to obtain).
  • A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License.
  • A current DOT certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four (4) years of recent experience in the repair and maintenance of all types of automotive and transit equipment.
  • Two (2) years of related supervisory experience.
  • Bus or heavy-duty truck repair experience.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of diesel engines and/or internal combustion engines, propane engines, automatic transmissions, airbrakes, steering, and drivelines.
  • A basic understanding of the theory of electricity and the ability to read and understand wiring diagrams.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to utilize automotive software and programs.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Broad understanding of all mechanical systems related to heavy-duty transportation vehicles.
  • Familiarity with laws/regulations associated with the safe operation of maintenance facilities.
