Role Overview: The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor (FMS) will oversee and execute the maintenance and/or replacement of the district's bus fleet, ensuring that all units are in optimal operating condition and compliant with district, state, and federal regulations, under the direction of the Fleet Maintenance Service Manager (FMSM). The FMS will provide support and direction to the campuses under their supervision to achieve objectives related to maintenance costs per rider, ensuring all fleet units at each campus are operational, and that service requests are addressed within a 48-hour timeframe.

  • Hourly compensation is determined based on experience.
  • Eligibility for performance bonuses based on team achievements and goal completion.
Additional Benefits:

We offer a comprehensive benefits package that covers a significant portion of the employee premium for the base medical plan and subsidizes costs for spouses/domestic partners and children. Some of the unique benefits at IDEA include:
  • Paid Family Leave: Eligible employees may receive up to 8 weeks of paid leave for the birth or adoption of a child, depending on tenure and caregiver designation.
  • Tuition Reimbursement: Employees may apply for reimbursement of up to 50% of tuition for qualifying degree programs, with a maximum of $5,250 per year, subject to managerial discretion and budget availability.
  • Employer-Paid Mental/Behavioral Health: Access to 5 face-to-face counseling sessions annually, unlimited 24/7 telephonic counseling, and additional work-life services at no cost.

What You Bring:
Competencies:
  • Experience with purchase order systems.
  • Proficiency in using a laptop for diagnosing maintenance issues.
Qualifications:
  • Experience: ASE Certification is required or the willingness to obtain certification within the first 6 months of employment.
Key Responsibilities:

Ensure Fleet Compliance:
  • Verify the operational status of the bus fleet prior to student transport.
  • Delegate tasks to Campus Mechanics for the proper execution of minor repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of operational work orders.
  • Stay informed on district, state, and federal regulations.
Achieve Maintenance Cost Savings:
  • Manage the budget within the parameters set by the FMSM of the Transportation department.
  • Ensure all purchased parts meet quality standards and are competitively priced.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all parts.
Communicate with Campus Managers:
  • Foster open communication with campus managers.
  • Provide constructive feedback to drivers and managers regarding fleet management.
Identify and Address Concerns:
  • Utilize budget tracking and reporting tools to identify areas needing attention.
  • Apply knowledge of diesel mechanics to implement necessary corrections.
Provide Training:
  • Deliver hands-on training to Campus Mechanics as required.
  • Recommend vehicle specifications to enhance reliability and minimize warranty costs.
  • Maintain ongoing engagement with maintenance staff within the department.
Manage External Service Vendors:
  • Process payments promptly using purchase order systems.
  • Communicate with external vendors regarding audit work, including trend analysis and recommendations to fleet managers based on findings.
