Job Summary

Hooper Deforest is seeking a highly skilled Safety Trainer to join our team. As a key member of our safety team, you will be responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising all field projects related to safety programs and policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead classroom and field training sessions for leadership, linemen, and apprentices.
  • Provide instruction on electrical line safety protocols, maintenance procedures, and equipment handling.
  • Facilitate practical, hands-on training using real-life scenarios to reinforce learning.
  • Assist in the development of training materials, including manuals, presentations, and videos covering electrical line work, safety procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Teach and counsel employees daily on OSHA standards and Hooper Safety standards.
  • Stay updated on Hooper policies, industry regulations, and new technologies to ensure training content remains relevant.
  • Maintain and update safety records, reports, and documentation to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate and participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and inspections.
  • Participate in post-incident investigations and the preparation of causal reports.
  • Prepare and distribute safety communications and updates to all employees.
  • Advise students on program details, rules, and expectations.
  • Prepare, administer, and grade written and practical evaluations.
  • Maintain the overall appearance of classrooms and labs.
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain the pole yard and indoor labs.
  • Order and manage inventory of safety equipment and supplies.
  • Collaborate with other departments to align training programs with operational needs.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and provide feedback for continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • BS Degree in occupational safety/health or four-year equivalent industry experience.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Trainer
  • OSHA 500 Construction Trainer and CUSP (Certified Utility Safety Professional) desired but not mandatory
  • One to five years Electric power construction or industrial safety experience with strong interest in safety field.
  • Working knowledge and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and Company safety regulations. Knowledge of OSHA Subpart V Electrical Power Transmission & Distribution desired.
  • Ability to recognize unsafe or hazardous working conditions and implement corrective measures as necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal and group presentation skills required.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in electric transmission and distribution.
  • OSHA Construction 10/30, OSHA 500 Construction Trainer and CUSP (Certified Utility Safety Professional)
  • Current Class A CDL with no restrictions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and A/V equipment.
  • Strong multitasking abilities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and effective communication skill
  • Grounding and bonding, Equipment Training (Cranes/Digger Derricks), Rigging, Pole top/bucket truck rescue, High angle rescue, Downhole rescue, Red Cross Instructor (First Aid/CPR/AED), Confined space, Fall restraint, Qualified Rigger/Signal person, Authorized practical examiner for NCCCO or EICA.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
