We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Child Protective Services Ongoing Specialist. As a key member of our Child Protective Services team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of children and families in our community.

Job Summary:

The Child Protective Services Ongoing Specialist will be responsible for planning, providing, arranging, and monitoring direct client services under the close supervision of the Child Protective Services Ongoing Supervisor. This includes engaging families in a positive working relationship to achieve a safe, stable home and permanency for children.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Complete intensive training and certification in child welfare and trauma-informed practices
  • Provide information, outreach, and assistance to consumers and the public at large
  • Maintain familiarity with and inform persons served of their rights and responsibilities
  • Conduct inclusive assessments and planning with families to establish goals and measurable outcomes
  • Focus on assessing for and controlling immediate and impending danger while collaborating with parents or caregivers to establish a capacity to minimize risk factors
  • Make efforts to engage parents in a working relationship with the Department to support change and further monitor the court order when applicable
  • Conduct regular home visits with clients, children, and out of home placement providers
  • Ensure child well-being by coordinating services for their physical health, mental health, behavioral health, educational, and cultural needs
  • Maintain case records, including timely and accurate documentation of activity, progress toward goals, and changes in client status or plans
  • Generate well-written court documentation, including permanency plans, court reports, etc.
  • Work closely with the Alternate Care Unit staff to identify placement resources for children placed in out of home care
  • Provide family interaction to maintain, establish, and promote parent-child relationships
  • Establish permanency for children in out of home care by means of reunification, guardianship, or termination of parental rights
  • Maintain awareness of and compliance with applicable rules, policies, procedures, funding source requirements, professional standards, and evidence-based practices
Requirements:
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work or a closely related field
  • Certified Social Worker (CSW) licensure or an active Social Worker Training Certificate
  • Relevant prior experience working with the population(s) to be served preferred
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with trauma-informed principles and practices
  • Basic computer keyboarding skills for entering data related to clients
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to social problems, cultural diversity, human growth and development, and individual and family functioning
  • Knowledge and understanding of federal laws, State statutes, and administrative rules which regulate the services to be provided
  • Ability to coordinate activities and functions that cross unit and departmental lines and involve other county and community agencies
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, superiors, Corporation Counsel, community partners, and the public at large
  • Ability to relate to people and to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in confrontational and stressful situations
  • Ability to follow instructions, plan, organize, prioritize, complete tasks, and to work closely with the supervisor and others
  • Must have unlimited access to a car, a valid driver's license, automobile insurance, and the ability to efficiently travel in and out of the county, as needed
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Work is performed in a variety of home, community-based, and office settings and involves travel. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and a combination of sitting and standing postures may be required. Ability to minimally work 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week is required.
