Therapeutic Recreation Specialist

Employment Type: Full-Time

The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist plays a vital role within a collaborative healthcare team, overseeing therapeutic activities both within the facility and in community settings. This position involves delivering Expressive Recreation Therapy through both group and individual sessions. The Specialist is tasked with designing engaging milieu projects and conducting comprehensive evaluations. Additionally, the role includes managing supplies and ensuring a well-organized activity space.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: A Bachelor's Degree in recreational therapy, activity therapy, art therapy, or movement therapy is required.

EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of experience in a therapeutic role within a behavioral health environment is preferred. Candidates should exhibit knowledge of contemporary behavioral health practices and therapeutic techniques. Understanding of developmental stages in children and adolescents is essential. Experience with children and adolescents exhibiting sexual behavior issues is advantageous.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: CTRS certification is required at the time of hire or must be obtained within twenty-four (24) months. Verification through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification is mandatory.

Required Skills: Strong empathy, effective time management, psychotherapy techniques, and organizational abilities.
