Associate Dean for Research and Innovation

The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at the University of Florida invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Research and Innovation. This is a senior leadership role that requires a visionary and highly capable leader with a strong commitment to excellence in research, innovation, and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for research and innovation in the college.
  • Lead the development and execution of sponsored programs and research initiatives.
  • Interface with research sponsors, industry partners, and government agencies to cultivate mutually productive relationships.
  • Actively identify, promote, and support teams of faculty to successfully compete for internationally recognized and competitively funded research programs.
  • Coordinate research development training and support for faculty at all career stages.
  • Lead the Research Advancement Committee and other initiatives to effect shared governance and increased synergy between department and college strategic research efforts.
  • Develop partnerships with corporations and nonprofits to develop collaborative research and development and tech transfer initiatives.
  • Encourage and facilitate technology transfer, commercialization, and the licensing of intellectual property developed within the college.
  • Oversee research service offices and programs, including the Office of Laboratory Safety, Office of Facilities Operations, Nanoscale Research Facility, UF Training Reactor, and Engineering IT Support.
  • Support the Executive Director for Finance & Administration in the oversight of research administration of grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements.
  • Oversee the outside activity and financial interest disclosure process for HWCOE faculty.
  • Coordinate with FLARE and other programs conducting classified research.
  • Assist in resolving compliance issues associated with human subject data, vertebrate animal studies, and research-related fiscal matters.
  • Represent the Dean and the College as required, including serving on the Council of Research Associate Deans and serving as Acting Dean when the leadership is away.

Requirements:

  • PhD in engineering or related field.
  • Rank of associate or full professor. Associate professors must clearly demonstrate they are on track to becoming a full professor.
  • Current UF employee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Productive track record of scholarship, research, and innovation.
  • Demonstrated success in leading externally funded, multi-investigator projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, industry, and government partners.
