Job Title: Admissions Counselor

Harris-Stowe State University is seeking a highly motivated and organized Admissions Counselor to join our team. As a key member of the admissions team, you will play a critical role in recruiting, selecting, and yielding undergraduate classes to support the university's mission and enrollment goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a defined geographic territory and meet pre-determined enrollment goals for the defined region
  • Develop and maintain positive educational partnerships with high school counselors, athletic department coaches and staff, and staff at local community colleges and high schools
  • Provide exceptional customer service to prospective students and their families, assisting them in navigating the admissions and enrollment processes
  • Travel approximately 13 weeks during Fall and Spring semesters to attend recruitment events and visit high schools and community colleges
  • Serve as a liaison between prospective students and campus departments, ensuring a seamless transition from application to enrollment
  • Stay up-to-date on admission, academic, and financial aid requirements and processes, providing expert guidance to prospective students and their families
  • Assist with follow-up activities, including correspondence, tele-counseling, and special events
  • Make scholarship recommendations and occasionally award scholarships to deserving students
  • Facilitate placement testing and assist with the creation of presentations and conduct admissions presentations on- and off-campus
  • Support the Hornet Hub function by staying informed about events and programs across campus and making a great effort to know about HSSU campus community
  • Participate in training programs to develop professionally and become fully informed about HSSU, recruiting, and admissions strategies
Requirements:
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree required; minimum of two (2) years of professional experience, preferably in admissions/recruitment or sales, and Master's degree preferred
  • Strong management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with varied constituencies
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of relational databases and information systems, as well as Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
  • Maintain confidentiality and have a strong understanding of and appreciation for the University's mission and commitment to diversity and inclusion
